JASPER HERE WE COME
6-6- 2012 to 7-6-2012
spent two nights in Jasper @ the whistler camp grounds, as we checked in with the ranger he told as to look out for the Grizzly bear that had been roaming the grounds the passed days (even showed us a photo taken 2 days b4) in the’ jasper mountain guide’ it states that if you see a black bear (much small type) to make a lot of noise and yell at it and it will back down…… now if you come across a grizzly bear, it states that you should pretty much give up and your fucked (in a nice way of course) with all this in mind we set up camp and went in to town.
Jasper is a much smaller town then Banff & less touristy. Jasper is 4 hours from any city were Banff is only around 1.5 hours. A lager rail yard makes up most of the town (I asked for a job but none going)
We picked up supplies (chips/beer) and looked at what we could do the next day?
HORESBACK RIDING! ITS ON!!!! Woke early the next morning to more rain booo!!! We were not going to let that stop us!!! Went into town where sam got him self a ‘dry as a-bone’ (real cowboy now) we then drove out to Pyramid Lake and had a look around…
(FACT BY JEN AKA GOOGES== in WW2 they tried making a air crafted ship out of ICE at Pyramid lake because it could be more economically friendly, they got over that idea and the remains lay at the bottom, were divers brave the below zreo temps to check it out)
This takes us to the horseback ridding. Sarah & Jen freaked out while they brought us our horse’s: Bugsy, Webster, Prince and Rusty. (Sam’s was a donkey and mine a shetlan pony). Our guide was awesome and showed us wolf kill sites from last night and some black bears she saw yesterday
Even though we could not feel our fingers and toes from the freezing temps and rain (pretty awesome riding through the Rockies during a thunderstorm).
IT WAS AWSOME!!!!! (If you did not have to feed and look after them I would sell my dirt bike and buy one) jokes! Sam and I felt like bush rangers. And the girls were killing it (Jen’s ran every where) the guide had even commented on how good we where.
After that we washed up and went into town to a local pub where we had 1 lbs of wings, elk burgers , yam fries, poutine , dozen beers and bourbons and watch the ice hockey play offs ( my heaven) and a little later another 1 lbs of wings….(only costing $119.84) With Sam, Jen and I out, it was up to Sarah to drive us home ( I think I would rather take my chances one on one with a grizzly haha sorry babe love ya) she did so well we made it back all safe!!!!
today
Before we were going to make the dash to Whistler, a local told us if we want to see a bear in the wild to drive out to Maligne lake, where a lot of bears are seen around that area.
So we did and to our luck we saw a black bear and male elk, there is just something about seeing an animal in its real habitat and no fence between as. After about a thousand photos we decided to make a move for whistler. Which brings me to now seating in the back of the RV Sarah asleep , Jen co-piloting to Sam’s piloting of the rig . Whistler here we come……
