We left Monterey
around lunch time and headed for Santa Barbara (home of Pat Curren surfing
Legend of the 1950s-1960s and Tom Curren Pats son surfing legend of the
1980s-1990s) so Sam and I were hoping to buy boards here and get some much
needed surf time.
We got into Santa
Barbara late and every thing was closed so we drove through the next little town
around 8 miles south called Carpinteria only small but super nice (it’s where
surfing sex wax is made) and is on Rincon Point (top surfing place) we checked into a cool RV park right on
the beach, then walked into town for tea. We found a mad Mexican place called
Cabos top food real home style cooking.
Cabo’s had $5
margarites that the girls were happy with. The lady behind the bar loved our
accents so I think she was making the drinks doubles. Sarah only had one drink
and she was off her face, she even had a small chuck back at the RV park.
The next morning we
got up and made our way down the coast heading for Danna Point. We went thought
Malibu, Long Beach, Huntington Beach and New Port Beach.
They were all over
rated, nothing like what you see on the surfing movies or tv shows. Waves and sand were dirty and
shitty (they had nothing on the beaches back home). Crowds and crowds of people,
with a toll of $25 + TO PARK on the beach, some of the line ups to get into the
car park ran for kilometres. (Malibu was crowded but looked the best of them
all)
We went in to New Port
RV Park to see how much it was to stay a night. They wanted $175 for one
night!!!!! We told them to stick it (very nicely) turned around and drove 4.5
hours back up the coast back to Carpinteria. We pulled in around 9 pm.
The next morning we
decided that we had a enough of driving and booked in for the next 2 nights
before we had to head to LA. The next day we met the Family staying next to us
who were such top people 9 of them in total.
Nick and Lindsey were
the eldest at 17 and Barrett the youngest at 7. Barrett and Nick just moved to
Bakersfield from Louisiana, this being Barrett’s first time seeing the ocean.
Lindsey (girl) was from Bakersfield and was the boys cousin.
We hung out with them
over the next few days. Asking continuous questions about each others countries
(if we had pet kangaroos and if there were sharks every where)
One night one of the
family’s staying across from us bailed Sam Jen and myself up asking questions
about oz before we know it we had over 20 people standing around
listening in on our accent and what we had to say (it felt like we were at a
press meeting )
Americans in school, a
told very little about the rest of world, Sam was asked if we had tigers in the
jungle back at home??? (not by a kid either ) Sam replied with ‘ “Were not
fucking Africa” (in a nice Sam way) it was classic.
Nick, Lindsey and
Barrett were super keen to learn how to surf. So the morning before we left Sam
and I hired some flowed Soft Top Surfboards and surprised them with a Surf Lesson
needless to say they were stoked.
Little Barrett was
freezing but just kept going and going with teeth chattering and all. Nick and
Lindsey KILLED it both getting up first go (must have been the great coaches
they had haha) we had people asking if we were from the local surf shop and how
much we charge an hour telling us what a great job we were doing. We loved it,
seeing how stoked they got when they got a wave and stood up. That was it, we
were going to move here and open a Surf School “COLE EAST SURF SCHOOL” hahaha
We returned the boards
and went back to Cabos for the last time.
The next day 26-6-2012
we got up and headed for Anaheim RV Resort one block back from Disney Land,
traffic was not too bad and we got there just after lunch. We did some much
needed washing (which gave me a few mid drift tops) and chilled around the
pool. We ordered pizza who delivered to our RV door ‘STYLISH’. We watched a
movie on the laptop and went to bed ready for our big day the next day at
Disney Land.
Next morning 27-6-2012
we were up early caught the first 7am bus to Disney Land we were all like
Little kids could not wait to get there. We got our tickets and walked in.
It was AWESOME and
massive its like you just walked into every kids dream town. All the staff a wearing
1950’s style uniforms that fitted in with the area that you were in. New
Orleans town has a full size old school steam/paddle boat going around the lake
which also has a full size Pirate Ship sailing around too. There’s Toon Town
and much much more. We did the Indiana Jones ride, Star Wars ride, Jungle
cruise, Magic Mountain ride and
heaps more.
Around 2ish we made
our way over to the second part of the park called California Adventure Park which is just as big but is more suited to the
older kids with roller coasters, holly wood town etc and sells alcohol where in
Disney Land you can not buy alcohol or smoke.
This is where the
Today Show was shooting from as well so we said hey to Lisa and Carl and all got
on tv. We hit up a few more rides and made our way back to Disney Land for
Mickey’s Street parade which was real cool by then we all had enough we made our way back to the RV Park.( if
you had more time you would do it over two days for sure)
The next day 28-6-2012
we caught the train into LA (to hard and long to drive into town) which cost
you $28 per person to travel 40min into town and return (no wonder there is so many people
drive to work ). Then we still had to catch the sub way which was a eye opener
at $5 per person.
You get off the sub
way at Hollywood blvd which throw’s you right into it. Black dudes trying to
give you there demo CD’s for FREE (when your in the US nothing is ever
FREE) and when you take it they
hit you up for what they call A
Tip!!! (yeah I found out the hard way).
T
here is People that
think they look like some one famous walking around asking for Tips for photos
with them ( I think some may have
been hookers ) we only saw one guy that looked like Samuel Jackson dressed like
he was is Pulp Fiction ( it may of acutely been him)
Every second person
runs the best star tour in town and try to suck you in (some a just mini vans
with roofs cut off that I am damn sure they have done at home them selves
Basically it’s like
bali on crack which more then a few people may of actually been on crack…….
We made it to Chinese
theatre where the concrete hand prints a of famous actors which is real cool.
There is every one from harry potter to marilyn Monroe. After that we went to
Madame Tussauds wax museum cool place to check out.
By this time we worked
up a appétit so we hit up Hooters for a feed…..
